# Get verified

> Confirm your eligibility to vote in World Republic elections.

Follow these steps to verify that you are a real person. It takes one short camera scan, you do it once, and it is what lets you vote and register a party.

## Prerequisites

* A World Republic account, signed in
* A device with a camera facing you
* You must be 18 or older

You do **not** need an identity document, and there is nothing to install.

## Steps

**1. Open verification**

Open [worldrepublic.org](https://worldrepublic.org) and sign in, then open the **Menu** tab. Under **Account**, the **Verification** row reads **Not verified** — tap it, then tap **Verify**.

You can also start from an election: if you are not verified, its button reads **Verify to vote** and brings you straight here. Registering a party does the same.

**2. Confirm and consent**

The screen explains what the check does and what becomes of your face data. Below that are two boxes, and you tick each one yourself:

* **I am 18 or older.**
* Your consent to the check: that World Republic and its identity providers process your facial image and biometric template to confirm you are a unique, live person, as the Privacy Policy describes.

They are separate on purpose: agreeing to the face check is not a statement about your age. With both ticked, tap **Start face verification** and allow your browser to use the camera when it asks. If a box is still empty, it shakes and nothing starts. The links under the button open the [Privacy Policy](https://docs.worldrepublic.org/legal/privacy) and the [Biometric Retention Policy](https://docs.worldrepublic.org/legal/biometric-retention).

**3. Complete the scan**

Hold your phone upright, fit your face inside the oval, and follow the on-screen prompts to move closer or further away. It takes a few seconds. Nothing flashes, and this scan never asks you for a document.

## Outcome

> [!TIP]
>
> **Success!** The screen reads **You are verified**. You can now vote in test elections and register a party. You do not repeat this for each election. If you started from an election, the screen also tells you your ballot is ready to cast: tap **Continue** and it reopens where you left it. If you started from **Register a party**, **Continue** takes you back to the registration form.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your face data: **Menu** → **Verification** → **Delete my face data**. Your account, your WDD and any party you lead stay as they are, and you cannot vote until you complete a new scan. If you voted in an election that is still open, the data is deleted when it closes.

Verification lasts for as long as you keep using World Republic. After three years with no activity on your account, your face data is destroyed and your verification is removed with it — the [Biometric Retention and Destruction Policy](https://docs.worldrepublic.org/legal/biometric-retention) sets out that schedule. You can verify again with a new scan.

## Troubleshooting

> **The scan failed or was interrupted**
>
> Both are retryable. The usual causes are lighting that is too dark or too bright, a face that is off-center or too far from the camera, more than one face in frame, holding the phone sideways, or the camera being blocked or already in use by another app. Move somewhere evenly lit, hold the phone upright at arm's length, and try again.
>
> If you retry repeatedly you are asked to wait before starting another scan, and the screen says for how long — usually a few minutes, up to an hour after many attempts.

> **Not approved**
>
> If your face matches one that is already verified, the scan is not approved. The comparison decides that itself, straight away: nothing is waiting on a person. In the **Menu** tab, the **Verification** row reads **Declined**, and the sheet behind it reads **Verification not approved**.
>
> Face verification is then closed for that account and no further scan can be started, from the Menu tab or anywhere else.
>
> If you believe it is a mistake, email [privacy@worldrepublic.org](mailto:privacy@worldrepublic.org) with your username. A person can look at both records and reopen verification.
