# Party subsidies

> Funding based on electoral performance.

Parties earn **world drachma** for the seats they win in [test elections](https://docs.worldrepublic.org/building-blocks/test-elections.md#from-votes-to-seats), so a movement with real support can fund itself instead of depending on donors.

## How it works

Each test election has a reward pool of WDD — the pools are [listed below](#reward-pools). The pool is divided into equal shares, one for each of the election's **2,025 seats**, and a party receives one share for every seat it wins. How seats are won — the counting method, the threshold of one seat, and why there are 2,025 — is set out under [test elections](https://docs.worldrepublic.org/building-blocks/test-elections.md#from-votes-to-seats).

> **Party subsidy** = seats won × (reward pool ÷ 2,025)

With a pool of **202,500 WDD**, one seat is worth **100 WDD**. A party with **20%** of the vote wins **405 seats** — **40,500 WDD**.

## Reward pools

| Test elections | Reward pool | Paid |
| :- | :- | :- |
| 33 onward | 202,500 WDD | By seats: 100 WDD a seat |
| 31–32 | 200,000 WDD | By share of the vote |
| 21–30 | 150,000 WDD | By share of the vote |
| 1–20 | 100,000 WDD | By share of the vote |

Elections before seats were introduced were paid in proportion to votes, with no threshold: every party with a vote took pool × its votes ÷ all votes cast.

Those elections also paid an extra 10% of each subsidy, on top of it, to the citizen who had invited the party's leader. That was the Ambassador Program, and it ends with them: from Test election 33, the subsidy is all an election pays.

## The barrier to entry

| | World Republic party | National party |
| :- | :- | :- |
| **Formation** | **Instant** (verified account) | **Weeks/months** (bureaucratic) |
| **Registration** | **Free** (no fees) | **Expensive** (filing fees + lawyers) |
| **Ballot access** | **Open** (any party, from registration) | **Difficult** (signatures + thresholds) |
| **Subsidies** | **From one seat** (about 0.05%) | **High threshold** (often 5%+) |

Starting a party costs nothing. The one requirement is that the account registering it is [verified](https://docs.worldrepublic.org/quickstart/get-verified.md) — the same short camera check that voting requires.

## How the money arrives

1. **It is not instant.** Each election is distributed once, after it has closed — not the moment the last vote lands.
2. **The award vests over a year.** Nothing arrives as a lump sum. The subsidy is released second by second across 365 days, and the balance in the app ticks up while you watch it.
3. **It lands in a personal account.** There is no separate party wallet. The subsidy accrues to the World Republic wallet of the citizen who registered the party, where the transaction list shows it as **Party subsidy**.
4. **You withdraw it yourself.** Vested WDD can be sent onchain to an address you choose, on either chain the [world drachma](https://docs.worldrepublic.org/building-blocks/world-drachma.md) runs on. A minimum withdrawal amount applies, and the app shows it on the withdrawal screen.

### A new subsidy restarts the clock

A second subsidy does not start a second stream beside the first. Whatever has already vested stays available in your balance; whatever has not is added to the new award, and the combined amount is spread over a fresh 365 days. A party that keeps earning keeps a rolling twelve-month horizon rather than finishing one award before the next begins.

## Why this matters

* **Financial independence:** parties are funded by their share of the vote, not by donors.
* **Level playing field:** a new party draws on the same pool as an established one.
* **Direct impact:** every seat is an equal share of the pool, and seats follow the vote.
